...Bed and Bath: sleeping and taking a shower

Staying on a Feather Down Farm, going back in time, you don't have to lie on a wooden block with straw mattresses. The tent is equiped with a spacious double bed in the Master Bedroom, a Bunk bed and a canopy bed with the dimensions of a three-quarter bed. Therefore this is suitable for two children or one adult.
The advantage of the Canopy bed is that it has two doors. One of them is on the Master bedroom side, so that parents can take a quick look at whether their offspring have dropped off. Or for the teenagers amongst us, to quietly sneak outside via the living room door in order to watch the beautiful star lit sky, without anyone really noticing (tip; do keep your socks on, because it is cold and the floorboards creak quite badly, so that you won’t wake anyone up when you try to creep to the tent exit).

There are nice thick modern mattresses in the beds, so that you will not wake up in the middle of the night from being pricked by straw or twigs sticking out, or sneeze the entire night because of hay fever. The beds have duvets and pillows. You receive the rental linen packages on arrival, from the farmer.

In the tent there is only cold running water in the kitchen. Here everyone can brush their teeth and wash their face and ears. A complete wash is nevertheless a bit of a worry and with a stay of several days, it is sometimes nice to completely wash yourself. There are two possibilities for this, namely:

girl water pump1. At the pump in the middle of the grounds. Ideal for daily washing and also economical. During soaping your helper, simply stops pumping for a moment. They then give you a rinse with a load of ice cold water. Few people have such holiday pictures in their album!

2. For those who are more inhibited and lovers of regular shower, every Feather Down Farm has a good shower facility with an abundance of hot running water (not entirely in the atmosphere of 1920, but nevertheless wonderful).

Towel parcels are available (paid directly to the farmer) and can be reserved in advance. The advantage is that you do not have to make the return trip with soaking wet towels.

When the weather is good, children only want two things: water and sand. They can swing all day on the pump and play with water, in trays, buckets, bowls, you name it. It can also be the children's’ task, to make sure that the animals of the Paddock have sufficient drinking water. That is very important. Or watering the plants and trees in the grounds. Whatever they feel like.

The last place with running water is in the Vintage Loo in the Feather Down Tent.

The toilet in the Feather Down Farm tent, and that is nice to know for children, looks exactly the same as in former days. Such a loo then stood in an out- house, not far from the main house, usually in the backyard (in front of the farm, near the road or something like that- of course it did not look very fresh). Now you can use a normal flushing toilet in the tent of the Feather Down Farm. That is also different from the old days, back then such vintage loo needed to be emptied at the back a couple of times each year .... Yuck! You don’t even want to think that the toilet in the Feather Down Farm tent might be a real one. Imagine that just on the weekend that you are staying there it must be emptied….

Toilet paper is not part of the standard equipment of the Feather Down Farm. We do not know whether you want single-sheet, double-sheet or flowers on the paper. Toilet paper is for sale in the farm-shop, but for late arrivals it might not be a bad idea to bring a roll with you from home.
